Godzilla

The end of a one journey

This post is long overdue. I’ve been putting it off for far too long. After delaying the inevitable, its time I say goodbye to this blog.

I’m getting a bit a head of myself. I’ll start at what has happened since the last post. I put this blog in hiatus back in September of last year. I was in the middle of returning to college and didn’t have enough time to work in this, study, and write for Monkeys Fighting Robots. I decided to put this blog on hold until I had time to catch back up on it. Unfortunately things started happening all at once. After I was done with college in December I had to start studying for my certification test and get my Occupational Therapy Assistant License. Afterward, I found myself in a move. Then as I was job hunting, I finally had my book be released.

Handbook for Surviving a Giant Monster Attack

Yes, I wrote a book. The Handbook for Surviving A Giant Monster Attack is available on Amazon from Severed Press. The book is the reason why I started this blog in the first place. I wanted to show my knowledge as a fan of giant monsters. It did help me to connect with Derek Koch of Monster Kid Radio who helped direct me towards Severed Press. I’m eternally grateful for his help.

Still, with the book out and me constantly writing for Monkeys Fighting Robots, while still doing a day job, a line has to be drawn somewhere. Unfortunately this means I have to finally say goodbye to this blog. Know this isn’t my goodbye to the Kaiju community as its more than obvious Giant Monsters will always be a part of my life. Instead, its saying goodbye to a project I’ve which has been a part of my life for over three years. Still, there comes a time when you have to direct your energy towards more important projects.

I know this blog didn’t get nearly as much traffic as I do over at Monkeys Fighting Robots and I never did get as much interaction as I hoped I would. Still, I had a lot of fun doing it. In closing I would like to leave you with the 5 Ultra Vows. Some of which are valuable even today:

1. Never going to school on an empty stomach (good advice)

2. Be careful of cars when walking down the street (also good advice)

3. Hang your futon on a sunny day (If you have a futon this is pretty good advice)

4. Do not depend on people (I’m pretty sure this one means in an ALL the time sense)

5. Play run around and play barefoot on the ground (be honest, we all need to do this a bit more)

I will probably post on this blog again when I do Podcasts or plan to attend conventions. Speaking of which I’ll be at Midwest Media Expo on April 28th-30th. I have my usual Godzilla panel scheduled. Overall though this is the last post of substance I’ll make on this blog for the foreseeable future. If you want more of my writing, then please buy my book. For everything else…”So long and thanks for all the fish.”

Poll: The next theme month

poll girl

With my first theme month completed I need to figure out which theme month I should get ready for next. I’m going my Crew figure out which one should I prepare for deployment.

  • Monkey Madness: A month of giant monkey movies
  • Goofy Gamera: A month of all the more comical Showa Era Gamera films
  • Bigger than Big: A month looking at all the different versions of Gigantor (Tetsujin 28)
  • Transformers: A month of Tranformers series to help get through the extended list of different Transformer series

Cast your votes below crew and help me figure out what you want me to review for this blog.

Creative Blogger Award

creative

I received a Creative Blogger award from D.T. Nova over at On the Edge of Enlightenment. Thanks man, I really appreciate it. I’m pretty sure this is the first one of these I’ve done. Time to get to the rules.

  • Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • Share 5 facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15 – 20 bloggers and add their links
  • Notify the bloggers you included
  • Keep the rules in your post to make it easy for everyone to know what to do!

Here are my facts:

  1. I usually do this blog in massive chunks weeks in advance so I can have space to work on other projects. Sadly, sometimes this buffer runs dry.
  2. I self published a novel. Not really insisting people go read it as I forgot to approve the editing changes. It taught me a lot though about being patient with my writing.
  3. I have a teaching degree but sadly am not teaching right now. The market in my home state is so bad I have had to go back to school for a new degree and am currently studying to be an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  4. I don’t get as much entertaining reading done as I want. I wanted to read 15 books for 2015. Once I finish the one I’m on that will make, four. Kinda fell short this year.
  5. The My Gunpla articles for this site are not a retired feature, I just didn’t get any of Gundam Models finished.

And the bloggers I’m nominating:

  1. Addaltmode
  2. Otaku Orbit

Sorry there aren’t more. I really need to be following more blogs. Happy Holidays everyone.

Double Sunshine Blogger Award

sunshine

I got a second Sunshine Award Nomination! A big thank you to D.T. Nova over at On the Edge of Enlightenment for the nomination. Let’s get these filled out shall we.

My questions:

1. What’s your reason for blogging?

gamera__pacific_rim_print_by_kaijusamurai-d8wl84v

To spread my love of shows and movies involving Giant Robots and Monsters to the internet at large to hopefully have more people realize just how awesome this genre can be. A big shout out to Kaijusamurai aka Matt Frank, who’s art is above. I think its awesome and you should check out his Deviantart page here.

2. Is there a show you like a lot even though other people don’t?

cj496_Boys_Be

There was a show from back in the early 2000s called Boys Be. It was a fun Romantic Comedy anime that I watched at a college club that none of my friends liked. They even tease me to this day about it enjoying it. I still thought it wasn’t half bad especially because the boys in the series actually had developing relationships which doesn’t always happen in anime these days.

3. What’s your favorite book?

1088140

The Count of Monte Cristo. After enjoying the show Gankutsuou (review coming later this year) I found myself wanting to know more about the original story. I’m a big fan of reading source material of different properties.

4. What kind of music do you like?

51F55JJS6BL

Songs from different animes and classic rock. I’m a big fan of both Journey and Aerosmith. I’m that guy that still loves “Don’t Stop Believin`” and doesn’t feel it has been overused in films and movies despite what the haters say.

5. If you could be any animal, what animal would you be?

cute-manatee-kiss-wallpaper-3

A Manatee. They get to play around all day in the water and they are so cute.

6. If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

troll-face

The excessive amount of trolling that appears in the world today. Seems like everyone is trying to troll everyone else these days. Things feel less sacred and special because of the all the trolling and it makes it hard to tell when people actually are being truthful with others. It makes different aspects of life feel less special. You know?

7. Is there something you’ve tried to do that you’re not good at?

gunpla-builders2

Despite all my efforts to try and work harder on my Gunpla I often find that my fine painting still isn’t up to where it needs to be. Makes me very nervous on the different model related projects I have planned out.

8. Do you have a hard time coming up with questions to ask people?

tumblr_n049f2LCDu1ru6pkxo1_500

Eh. Not in this area. I mean its my blog and dedicated to geeky material. I can ask people about anime/video games/comic books and other hobbies and they will be very passionate and expressive about them. Now in the real world, I can find small talk tricky until I figure out what makes the other person tick.

All right now its my turn. Time to nominate a few people myself. Still not following that many blogs personally. I think I’ll look through my followers and extend it to them:

Mangatatu-kun over at Otaku High School Life

Masumi Amari over at Morning Toast

Mangalover 93 over at Manga, My life

Here are the questions for you to answer:

  1. What are you currently looking forward to in the year?
  2. What anime is your comfort food (you’ll watch it anywhere anytime to feel better)?
  3. What are you currently reading for fun?
  4. What American property do you want more of?
  5. What is your favorite snack?
  6. What was your favorite childhood toy?
  7. Who is your favorite giant monster?
  8. Which project have you been putting off for too long and need to get back on?

That’s all I got. Now I just have to work on finally getting the button for the award on the website. Don’t let that deter anyone else from nominating me again. I like these things. They get me off my butt and writing.

Sunshine Award Nomination

sunshine
Recently I was once again nominated for another blogging award. I really appreciate all the help I’ve been getting to help makes this blog the best it can be. A big shout out to dandylion13 for the nomination. Alright time to get to work.

Here are the rules as I’ve been told:

– Thank the Person who nominated you

– Answer the questions from the person who nominated you.

– Nominate a few other bloggers.

– Write the same amount of questions for the bloggers you nominated.

– Notify the bloggers on their blog.

– Put the award button on your blog.

I thanked Dandylion13. Better answer the questions next:

1. What if your favourite movie? If you don’t enjoy movies then , what is your book?

Transformers-movieposter-west

I have a lot of movies that I love. But since this is the my blog about big things, I’ll go with the original Transformers movie. I still listen to the soundtrack on a daily basis. 80s synth rock for the win!

2. Who is you favourite hero? I don’t necessarily mean Superhero, I mean anything from fiction or reality that you consider your hero.

Ironman02

Iron Man!

3. Do you watch stand-up comedy? If so, who if your favourite comedian?

titus

I love stand-up comedy. My favorite comedian is Christopher Titus. I loved his show back on Fox and I now follow his podcast and love his comedy specials.

4. What is your least favourite anime and why?

brainpowerd

Brain Powered. An Anime so bad that I couldn’t even finish it. Its convoluted and I didn’t get attached to any of the characters. I never finished it so I hesitate to review it but I think I should and just state it was impossible to finish.

5. What is your favourite food? It could be anything… ANYTHING!

italian_2_adjust

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I love a good Italian sub.

6. What do you enjoy about blogging?

Feedback! There is nothing like writing and actually being able to get comments about what you wrote done.

7. What is Love?

Personally I feel that we get caught up too much in the idea of Romantic Love. Not everyone needs to find a sense that special someone and settle down in a dream house to have achieved love. I feel love is a feeling of belonging and contentment and if you are able to achieve that then CONGRATULATIONS! You win at life.

SaitoHiragaxLouiseFrancoiseleBlancd

That being said, “I love my wife very much” and I’m glad I did find romantic love. What I’m trying to say is people shouldn’t get obsess over finding it but it is awesome when you succeed.

Whats next? Nominate some people. Damn I really have to follow more blogs. I’m gonna give a shout out to one of my fans and nominate LitaKinoAnimeReviews. Here are the questions to be answered:

1. What animes are you waiting to come out?
2. What was the last bad movie you watched? Was it entertaining bad or just bad bad?
3. Do you have a favorite book or Author?
4. Who is your favorite Giant Monster?
5. What is your favorite Giant Robot?
6. Favorite Comfort food? Not Necessarily your favorite food but that one food that makes you feel at ease?
7. Ever been to a conventions? If yes, when is your next one.

Again, thanks for the nomination Dandylion13.
